Frequently Asked Questions
I am interested in joining Footprints, but how do I join?
Since Footprints coordinates with UF Health Volunteer Services, we are only able to accept new volunteers once per semester. Application cycles typically take place during the middle/end of each semester for matriculation in the following semester. For example, when applications opened in March of 2022, applicants were selected as Footprints volunteers and started volunteering in Summer of 2022. To stay up to date with our application cycles, please follow our website and social media pages!
What does the application process look like, and where can I find the link to the application?
Our application cycle consists of a written application followed by an invite-only interview with members of our executive board. Prospective applicants will be emailed at each stage of the cycle informing them of their acceptance or rejection. The application can be found at the "Home" page of this website and will additionally be posted to our social media at the time of an application cycle.
What are the time and organizational commitments per semester?
Our volunteers spend 3 hours a week volunteering in the hospital on an assigned weekly shift designated at the start of the semester. This equates to roughly 48 hours each semester. Through the General Body Meetings, Community Outreach, and Social components of the organization, our members invest an additional 10 to 15 hours of their time. In total, this equates to around 60 hours each semester.
What qualifies a Footprints member as active for the semester?
All active members of Footprints are required to maintain good standing at the end of the semester by fulfilling the point system set in the beginning of each semester. This includes attendance at General Body Meetings, participating in Community Outreach events, Fundraisers, Socials, and other opportunities that arise throughout the semester. The point requirement is separate and supplemental to the volunteering shift on the unit, weekly.
Who can apply to Footprints?
People of all backgrounds and majors are encouraged to apply to Footprints! We prioritize a passion and commitment to the kids--there is no "cookie-cutter" applicant!
On that note, members should not expect to have contact with medical professionals on the unit. Our role as volunteers is to provide companionship for the patients and not to take part in any aspect of their medical care.
If I'm not a member, how can I get involved now?
We host many workshops, fundraisers, and events such as our annual Pediatric Illness Forum that are open to all UF students, including those who are not current Footprints members. These events range in topic and are a great way to get to know current Footprints members. Follow us on our social media to stay updated on when and where events will be and come say hi!
