Best Time with the Best People

Ever since I heard about Footprint’s mission to help "kids just be kids" despite being in a hospital and potentially missing out on other typical kid activities, I knew that I wanted to be a part of this community. I am a child at heart and enjoy playing games with kids, so going to my hospital shift was never something that I dreaded going to. I knew that I would feel more relaxed while knowing that my volunteering would be making a huge impact on the kids on the unit.

This organization has also brought me a wonderful community of the friendliest people. Everyone is very sweet and drama-free. I truly feel that I can ask anyone to help me out and they would do it in a heartbeat. For instance, one day I accidentally left my volunteer shirt at home and asked a couple of friends if they would bring me theirs to use, and they got back to me to see if I still needed help and to bring me their shirt. They are very selfless and sweet.

One of my favorite events volunteering with Footprints outside of Shands has been volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House. The Ronald McDonald House provides resources like housing and food for families of sick children. With Ronald McDonald House, I got a chance to bake sweet treats for these children and their families. I helped to create monster cupcakes and decorate them with colored icing and sprinkles. I was on a mission to create a cupcake with fun decor that a child would be thrilled to choose. So, I created a purple monster with three eyes, and stuck sprinkles to resemble tiny hairs along with finger tails. It was so much fun baking and decorating!
